Brake squeal that only happens when reversing, is that normal or a sign of wear?
Quote from clarissamacWhirter on October 14, 2026, 8:29 amBit of an odd one but my GranTurismo has started squealing when I reverse out of my parking spot in the mornings, not loud enough to be embarrassing but definitely noticeable. It doesn't happen when braking going forward, only in reverse, and it usually disappears after the first few stops. I've heard that some performance brakes just do this especially when cold, but I've also heard it can mean the pads are glazed or the discs have an issue. The car stops perfectly well otherwise and there's no grinding or vibration. A neighbour mentioned there's an Exclusive Maserati workshop near Dubai Production City that deals with these cars regularly, so I'm considering getting the brakes inspected before I assume it's nothing. My questions are whether reverse only squeal is a known quirk of big brake setups on these cars, and how do you tell the difference between normal cold brake noise and pads that actually need replacing. Also is it worth having the discs measured while they're in there, or is that something they'd only do if there's visible wear?
